This is a Go-No-Go gauge with no moving parts that can break or wear out.  Put the paper in the throat and when it stops, read the measurement.  Available in inch or metric.

Originally designed as a pressroom tool for printing press operators.  It literally take a split second to measure the thickness of the paper you have in your hand.  It is small and light enough to conveniently carry in your pocket all day long.
Also used by postage stamp collectors to authenticate stamps and disqualify forgeries.
