WWI Antique Silver British War Canadian INF Medal Original Ribbon 1914-1918
Details: This auction is for the RARE antique WWI British War silver medal GEORGIVS V BRITT. OMN REX ET IND IMP 1914-1918 in great, practically mint condition with original yellow blue ribbon.
The medal is a silver disk, 36 mm in diameter, with a straight clasp suspender without swivel. The medal was designed by W. McMillan and struck by the Royal Mint.
The obverse shows Sir Bertram Mackennal's bareheaded effigy of King Geoge V facing left, with the legend "GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:" (George V, King of all the British Isles and Emperor of India). The reverse shows Saint George with a sword on horseback. In the background are ocean waves and near the right upper rim is the risen sun of Victory. The years "1914" and "1918" are marked on the perimeter.
The recipient's name, rank, service number and unit are impressed on the bottom edge of the medal: 599.17 GNR.E.W.HORTON.R.A.
